Now it's the season again to see the top 10 most wanted fish.
This blog attracts variety of audiences from English speaking cyber world from US to Oman. Considering the fact we are focusing on fly fishing in and out of Tokyo, amount of traffic to each article shows level of interest to that fish.
Based on the page views, these are the top 10 most wanted fish in 2012.
#10: Northern Snakehead (->new)
This fish was introduced to Japan without any plan whatsoever, had its day of prosperity, then now heading for extinction. If pike is mafia fish, then snakehead is absolutely yakuza.
#9: Japanese Dace (7 ->9)
They go hard and fast on fly regardless of the fact they have a small mouth. They make good day of fly fishing, if you have quick access to upper section of stream.
#8: Bigeye Trevally (-> new)
Pretty common drifter from Black Current is popular target for its aggressiveness and pretty look. Papio of Japan.
#7: Sakhalin Taimen (4->7)
Native of northern Japan now found in stock fishery. Hard skinned predator of the northern water will pull your heart out into the wild. Native fish in Hokkaido is mostly fished in spring time.
#6: Pale Chub (6->6)
Tokyo's friendliest mini-fish abundant in middle section of stream for you to play with. Male fish in full colourization will make your catch worthwhile. Don't use any tackle beyond 3wt that will make flying fish out of fly fishing.
#5: Rockfish (5 ->5)
Entry fish for Japanese saltwater fly fishing. This fish really rocks. Too bad they taste great and you won't find big size fish from bank easily.
#4: Lake Trout (8->4)
Canadian born only available in Lake Chuzenji. They only come to shallow in low light situation. Meeting them in such condition make chilling experience for both the water temperature you wade in and ghostly scenery of the lake.
#3: Japanese Sea Perch (2->3)
Proud to announce Tokyo's home fish continues to stay at this high rank.
Solid skinned predators with unique character will give you tireless games to enjoy. If you have tried striped bass or snook, you will love this fish as well.
#2: White Spotted Char (3->2)
Ice age land locked fish show so many variations on skin patterns.
Sea run fish are specialty of season in Hokkaido. Sometimes wary, sometimes frank. Fish with distinctive character.
#1: Cherry Salmon (1->1)
Defending champion of 2012.
No matter what you fish or what you do. You will agree with the beauty of this fish of crown jewel. Landlocked cherry salmon gives you joyful time of fly selection and presentation. Salmonidae alone, we have:
5 Salmons – Chum salmon, pink salmon, kokanee salmon, black kokanee salmon, and cherry salmon
2 Trouts – Rainbow trout and brown trout
4 Chars – White spotted char, dolly varden, brook trout, and laketrout
1 Taimen – Sakhalin Taimen
1 Whitefish – Maraena whitefish
