Doublespotted Queenfish / Minami Ikekatsuo
Minami Ikekatsuo [jp] / Doublespotted Queenfish
Scomberoides lysan
(Forsskål, 1775)
As a family of jack, doublespotted queenfish blend in with other jacks to form a school and you catch them probably as a bycatch when you are going after trevallies. They chase fly hard and once it's hooked it will jump its way out for freedom. It's a fun fish to go after specifically.
Habitat & Season
This subtropical fish is abundant in the southern water, but travel to the https://www.spiritplantjourneys.com/ island during summer time and stay there until they all die out by the drop of water temperature. In some area where exhaustion of warm water is present, they survive a winter. 1st year fish won't grow any bigger than 25cm, but 2nd year fish will make to 40cm (one in the picture) who will make quite a game.
Tackles & Flies
Similar to trevally tackle (as you would bycatch them). 6-8wt with sinking line with 16lb leader. Much like other jack members, they react particularly well to slime shape. From my recommendation, you can use Mikura Candy which works with any sort of jacks quite well.
If you are going after wandering fish in the main island water, then 4-6wt should be sufficient to give enough power.Minami Ikekatsuo [jp] / Doublespotted Queenfish
