Ogasawara Archipelago, Tokyo – Day 1
It has been on my mind for quite sometimes to visit Ogasawara Archipelago one day, part of Tokyo’s Islands District at the furthest away into the south in the middle of Pacific Ocean.
> About the Island District of Tokyo
1. Covering the Entire “Tokyo"
As this club is known as “Tokyo Fly Fishing & Country Club", it would be a shame to leave this vast area left blank in our database. Previously, 3 of us have ventured to two islands: Miyake and Mikura; in Izu Archipelagos in 2010.
I had a golden opportunity of having 2 weeks vacation, so I didn’t hesitate and booked my trip.
2. Beginning of the Voyage
There are 3 ferry routes departing from Tokyo Dock at Takeshiba Pier off Hamamatsu-cho Station. 2 takes you to Izu Archipelago and 1 takes you beyond to Ogasawara Archipelago.
Ogasawara-maru bound to Chichi Island left Tokyo Dock at 1030. Thus began the expedition to Ogasawara Archipelago, the southern most part of Tokyo that is 25 hour ferry journey away. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem with good drinks and reading material and let’s see what awaits a lone fly fisher on the other side of Tokyo.
I had a really rough time just before this trip, so I slept deeply after the departure. When I woke up, there was nothing but big water around me.
Then I suddenly realized that this trip will be bigger than just fishing. I celebrated this moment with cigar and rum made in Ogasawara.
