Run & Gun Day 1 – Shimizu to Izu

2020/11/25

Hama-san and I arrived around 6:00 at Miho Beach off the city of Shimizu which is selected as one of the top 3 surf in Japan. Set tackle quickly and we headed out into the Airfield Point.

Anglers as far as eye can see, casting after yellowtails. Every angler arrived early enough got his reward. Nice yellowtails in 40’s.

On the back of us, there was a small airfield which this Airfield Point is named after. There was a runway, but no control tower or radio facility. I wonder what this field is all about. Looks abandoned.

Absolutely a grand scenery of Mt. Fuji. No catch whatsoever, but being here is already worth coming.

And I’m honored to meet the famous “Tomodachi". I’m pretty sure he has sworn to revenge on both humanity and fishery of the world!

We
wrapped up the game on surf early and headed to Yaizu Harbor west of
Shimizu. Along the way to get here we saw every angler catching his
reward from small jack to 50cm halibuts. With much hope, we started our
day game. However…

The closest we came around fish was meeting Skull Fish blocking our
way. Skull Fish is a bad luck and warning to anglers. Skull Fish spoke,
“I will ruin the rest of your fishing on this trip".

Then Hama-san received mysterious information on fishery in Izu
Penninsula. Under the circumstances, we decided to go back to Shimizu
and to take ferry to Izu.

At this point, we realized that this trip was going to be more of “run" than “gun". Good run for sure.

Good bye, Shimizu.

Hello, Izu.

After the ferry reached the village of Toi on the western side of
Izu Penninsula, we drove on to the town of Nishina, further south. We
set a camp for the night, set a bonfire, and drank and drank. Hama-san,
liberated from all the city worries, turned into a fireman! While I
fell in sleep for the good day to come.
