CDC Chironomid Adult

2020/11/25

There are awfully not that many species hatching when the water temperature is still low in early spring, and chironomid along with cranefly is the earliest who hatch at 5 degree C.  And in little bit warmer day, you will see small mayfly hatching above 8 degree C.  They are all pretty small in size of hook #20-30.

This is a pattern developed for Japan’s mountain creek that can cover chiromid, crane fly, or small may fly.
Very simple to tie, yet yet very difficult to handle due to its very small size. I recommend you use tweezers in the assembly and  C&F threader when finished.

Hook: #20-30
Wing: CDC natural
Body: dubbing or thread, colour to match the hatch
