Tama River – Lower Section
Lower section of Tama River begins at downstream of Chofu Sluice underneath Maruko Bridge and ends at Tokyo Bay where Haneda Airport is located. Tidal water effect the entire lower section and brackish water allow andromous fish such as sea perch to go between river and the bay.

Chofu Sluice attracts many lure and fly anglers who can park their cars at nearby park or get off trains at Shin Maruko Station.

Riverbed changes from freestone to silt beyond this point. Crustaceans and annelids are abundant in this segment that cradles many predatory fish.

Where would you pay the fee to fish in the Tamagawa?
For Tama River in middle and lower sections.
Man of fishery cooperative managing that water will approach you for the ticket.
It’s usually 1,000-1,500 a day depending on the area, so keep it in your wallet.
If no one comes, then take that as your lucky day.
For upper sections where they stock the water with ayu and trout, fishery cooperatives are
not relaxed at all and may charge you extended amount as penalty if you appear on river without
pre-purchased admission which is usually double the daily amount. To avoid that, check with nearby convenient stores.
Otherwise, keep 3,000 in your pocket and consider the extra margin as gratuity.
