I still vividly remember my first encounter with fly fishing when I was in primary school reading random fishing magazine showing beautiful fishing scenes and cool equipment leaving magnificent impact to my very young heart. But I haven’t seen a signle yamame or iwana at that age, so fly fishing remained a tale from far away land for good many years.

Then I was turning into outdoorsman through ski and snowboard in my teens; camping, clibming, and mountain bike in my twenties. That’s when I observed trouts in mountain rivers aside the trails gaining curiosity to catch them by fishing.

That made a connection to my young memory turning into my very first fly rod: Axisco 7’3" 10pc pack rod. It took me a while to build casting while I brought my pack rod aside trekking into deep mountains – realazing this isn’t easy sports demanding dedication. Thus I cocentrated my efforts onto mountain creek trouts for 3 years giving up other pursuits.

Then I learnt the technique of Spey casting and two-hand tackle as I seeked much larger trout in big streams and lakes opening my eyes to wet fly and streamer. Out of my 60 days of fishing time per year, I allocate 90% for trout fishing based in River Sai in Nagano and River Uono in Niigata, Lake Chuzenji in May and June, and Hokkaido in eary summer and autumn for the past few yearas.

My best fishery has to be Hokkaido when covered in massive green in July and colourful leaves in October giving me the great joy meeting wonderful fish and scenery making my journey worthwhile.

My interest in saltwater fly fishing led me to TFFCC’s Martyn White that dates back in 2018 where I found great potential fly fishing for breams in every shallow off river sytems in Kanto Area.

Then I spend the summer of 2019 with Martyn and David in Kuroshima chasing after trevallies, trigerfish, and sharks. Wide open shallows & flats opened new chapter in my fly fishing while overcoming the difficulites of quick shoot by singlehand overhead casting giving me lot to learn about. Equally challenging to learn English to keep up with the club:)

I would love to write articles about domeestic trout fishing whle my Instagram @hiromikitakibi is giving me oppoprtunies to exchange information with overseas anglers asking for fly fishing in Japan where I find great need to help them find the right information and leads.
