What Dictates the Uniquness

Mountain rivers near Tokyo (comparable with the rest of Honshu Island) are narrow and short before they merge into the mainstream. Water source are coming from  3 sources:

  • From head water coming out of mountains of high elevation – makes the current running fast while temperature low
  • From spring water emerging out of gaps – keeps the water temperature low throughout the year except winter when freeze occurs
  • From rain collected by forest – adds nutrient rich water and raise temperature in warm seasons

Winter to Early Spring

Combined with the fact mountain river runs through valley where daylight hours are limited, mountain rivers have poor hatch from Winter to early Spring.
